Hurricane Ian - now a powerful and "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm - one level below the most powerful Category 5 - hit the Florida coast with high winds and significant flooding as it moved up the state's west coast.

The areas between Naples and Sarasota are the ones at the center of the storm's surge, according to the center. More than -2.5 million people in the area were ordered to evacuate.
