In an official statement, the German authorities announced the extension of the mission of its military forces in Iraq and its end in Syria.
The German government said in a statement issued yesterday: "The German Council of Ministers has agreed to extend the activities of our military forces in Iraq against ISIS and to focus on restoring stability in the region."
The government added, "The new mandate given by the Council of Ministers will expire on October 31, 2022."
The government explained in its announcement that Germany had deployed about 500 troops in Iraq, noting that their missions were limited to aerial refueling, air transport and reconnaissance missions and participation in NATO flights.
She added: "According to the mandate of the Council of Ministers, the missions of the German forces in Syria have ended."
It is worth noting that the German forces are participating in logistical and technical support in the operations of the international coalition in both Syria and Iraq.
