Friday morning, unknown individuals killed a prominent Iranian senior member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, in an ambush on the road between Palmyra and Deir a-Zor in the Syrian Badia (desert).
A special source told the Syrian news network in the east of the country - "Ein al-Prat" that the Iranian commander, Raza Safdari, was killed in an ambush carried out by unknown assailants who are believed to be members of ISIS cells in the Palmyra desert in eastern Syria.
Safdari served as an adviser to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in Syria, and he reached Deir a-Zour in Syrian territory at the beginning of the current year 2021 through Iraq, then began moving between the rural area of Deir a-Zor district and a-Raqqa district as far as the eastern region of Homs province, areas where Iranian militias were deployed.
Safdari was attacked, while on his way from Palmyra (Tadmor) to the countryside of Deir a-Zor district, in an explosion caused by a IED charge that hit his car.
It is worth noting that the assassination has not been claimed by any party so far, and it is possible that the Syrian National Defense Militia is the real perpetrator of setting the IED despite blaming ISIS elements for the attack, as the Syrian security militia's relationship with Iranian militias is very tense at the moment, especially in the Palmyra area.
Last Wednesday, the city of Tadmor witnessed clashes between the two sides, the Syrians and the Iranians, which resulted in a number of dead and wounded.
