French electric company Electret de France (EDF) warned of severe problems in a nuclear power plant in Chine and demanded to shut it down, CNN reported on Saturday.

The company’s spokesperson stipulated that even though an emergency situation was not declared in the Taishan power plant in Guangdong province, the situation is deteriorating.

The company further stressed that the plant should be closed due to damage to the fuel rods, and noted that the decision lies with its Chinese partner and the main stockholder, China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN).
