Barel Shmueli's mother after removing entry from Wikipedia: "Killing him a second time"

The information page we made about my son Barel who was murdered by a terrorist on the Gaza border was deleted from the site, claiming that the incident described in it is "not objective." We are very disappointed and in pain."

The mother of IDF space Barel Hadaria Shmueli spoke out today against the removal of her son's entry from the Wikipedia site. Barel was shot dead by a terrorist on the Gaza Strip border,

"Yesterday, by chance, a stranger called me and told me about it, otherwise I would not have known. I felt that my child was being murdered a second time," she said. "It happened, and why was there no one to supervise it? To accept such a thing is to really feel like we are being murdered a second time."

Nitza added: "I think Barel is really a hero of Israel. He is a fighter who risked his life for the country, and he is really a symbol and role model. He is really a role model, and we are very sorry. We are very disappointed, hurt, I have nothing to add but pain.".

Asked if the left was behind Wikipedia, the mother replied: "It turns out. But I do not take a political side. Apparently the same people who decided to remove Barel are narrow-minded people, and they are not able to reach a status like Barel and the families who gave the children to the country.

Wikipedia said this morning in response to the publication: "Wikipedia and its editors respect every person, and precisely because of this, the principles of encyclopedic importance for personalities have been defined, including special and separate treatment of IDF soldiers." According to the website, "They are relevant, and are intended to preserve the principle of objectivity and non-discrimination, including among IDF soldiers, which is necessary for the purpose of maintaining the credibility and neutrality of Wikipedia."

To this response, Nitza Shmueli replied: "I will tell you what is happening. They need to recognize him, he was a hero and a national symbol. His case is different from many soldiers killed, because the case of Barel was filmed. Hamas, who murdered my son, photographed everything, and that was why it's so well-publicized. It's a pity, I would like Barel next to me and not be published," the mother concluded in pain.
