Senior suspected of raping a girl in the ward he runs and sexually assaulting multiple patients
The director of the pediatric ward at one of the largest hospitals in the center, in his 60s, has been suspected of sexual offenses against a number of girls and women over the past decade. According to the accusation, the doctor harmed the victims in the hospital and in a private clinic while presenting the acts as a medical procedure. "The women held it in for many years."
A senior doctor in his 60s was arrested this morning (Sunday) on suspicion of raping a girl in a ward he runs in one of the largest hospitals in the center of the country and has committed indecent acts on girls and other women over the past decade. The investigation shows that some of the offenses were committed at the hospital, and some at a private clinic he owns, also in the central area.
The doctor took advantage of his role to sexually assault the girls and women, presenting the acts as a required diagnostic and treatment procedure. Among the victims were also relatives of patients at the hospital and clinic. The suspect will be brought to the Magistrate's Court in Tel Aviv tomorrow for an extension of detention.
The suspicions arose recently after a young woman reported to the hospital what she had experienced. The head of HR at the hospital reported this to the police, who turned interviewed the girl, and after several conversations has agreed to testify saying that the doctor raped her nine years ago. Following the complaint, the police reached more victims, and as the investigation progressed enough to file charges, the suspect was arrested, along with a search and seizure of documents and findings that may be relevant to the investigation.
A police source involved in the details of the investigation said that "the women were afraid to complain because it was a senior doctor, they held it in their stomachs for many years. "this was an extremely traumatic experience, but we need to take action and make his name known publicly."
