Samir Jajah, the leader of the Christian Lebanese Forces party, was marked by Hezbollah as the person behind the shooting incident on Thursday in Beirut during which seven Lebanese supporters of Hezbollah and Amal were killed. The party with 15 seats in parliament is the second largest in the Christian camp.
Although Samir stands at the forefront, many claim that the one who actually runs the party is none other than Strida Jaja, his wife. Strida, who is a member of parliament itself manages the party's internal affairs at a high level and is responsible for managing its finances. In the past, serious disagreements have been reported between the couple regarding the investment of party funds.
As is known in recent years, the party has received donations of hundreds of millions of dollars from Saudi Arabia. The funds are invested in a number of channels, including real estate in the Kurdish region of Iraq.
Strida belongs to the Lebanese a-Tuk family, which has many investments in Africa. She and her husband have considerable capital held through straw companies. Samir alone has a fortune of $200 million.
Opponents of the party tend to attack Strida for her public insensitivity because they claim she is careful to appear in public in the best clothes and accessories (watches, luxury bags) worth tens of thousands of dollars while most Lebanese groan under the aggravated economic situation.
