Construction of Shiite temple in Damascus is a growing source of Sunni-Shiite friction

Since Assad brought the Iranians to Syria at the front door, in his desperate attempt to survive the war against Syrian rebels, ISIS, al-Qaeda, and other jihadist terrorist organizations, and all other elements who wanted to oust him, the Iranians in turn have opened back doors to make Syria part of the Shiite Crescent.

As part of this process, members of the Shiite militias were brought to Damascus, under the pretext of "saving the Shiite temples" from those who wanted to destroy it, and of course the a-Saida Zainab mosque in Damascus was renovated, becoming a Shiite stronghold, along with its immediate and distant surroundings.

Of course the Iranians made the temple complex their own, and began to bring pilgrims to the temple, whether they were Iraqi, Afghan and Pakistani Shiite militias, and of course Lebanese Hezbollah members, or whether they were tourists from Iraq and Iran who entered Syria with or without Syrian knowledge and schema.

For years there has been friction between the Sunni population in the neighborhoods around the compound, and the Shiite militiamen who have been brought in to guard the compound, and the pilgrims who flow into the place.

When there is an increase in the number of Shiites coming to the temple complex, there is also an increase in friction with the Syrian citizens.

Following the news of the new zenith construction work entering the final stages, and preparations for the installation of the new structure this coming summer, there is a fear of a significant increase in the influx of pilgrims, who will come to witness the glittering new wonder.
