On October 27, 2002, Menachem Gilboa, the owner of a gas station convenience store at the entrance of the city of Ariel, noticed a suspicious man approaching.
Menachem along with another worker approached the suspect and quickly identified him as a suicide bomber. They heroically leaped into action and held down his arms, preventing him from detonating the explosive device.
Menachem called for help to a group of IDF soldiers who were waiting nearby for their bus. The soldiers quickly came to assist and subdued the terrorist, ensuring that he wouldn't detonate the device.
As this was ensuing, a security officer who was filling up gas noticed what was happening and quickly ran over and shot the terrorist twice in the head.
Tragically, the dead terrorist fell to the ground and his suicide vest detonated upon impact, killing the three soldiers who were restraining him and injuring 20 more people, one seriously.
May the memories of these brave soldiers be a blessing:
Maj. (res.) Tamir Masad, 41, of Ben Shemen;
Lt. Matan Zagron, 22, of Itamar;
Sgt.-Maj. Amihud Hasid, 32, of Tapuah
