The intelligence website SITE reported on Thursday that al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula had announced the killing of one of its military commanders in a U.S. offensive in Yemen, according to Reuters.

Rita Katz, director of the website that monitors the activities of armed groups on the Internet, said that the organization did not mention the date and place of the killing of Saleh bin Salem bin Obaid Abulan (also known as Abu Amir al-Hadrami), who was among al-Qaeda leader Osama's aides Bin Laden.

Katz cited reports on Twitter of a U.S. air strike that killed three ISIS fighters on November 14.

Last February, the United Nations announced the arrest of the organization's leader in the Arabian Peninsula, Khaled Batrafi, and the killing of his deputy, Saad 'Atef al-Awlaki, during a "security operation in the city of al-Jaeda in the Yemeni province last October."

The UN report then stated that "in addition to his casualties among his commanders, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is suffering from erosion in its ranks due to desertions, especially after the major blows and defeats it suffered in Yemeni province."

The report noted that the global al-Qaeda network "faces a new and urgent challenge in terms of its leadership and strategic direction, following an unusual period of erosion among its senior commanders" in Afghanistan, Mali, Somalia, Yemen and the Syrian province of Idlib.

A spokesman for the U.S. Army Central Command claims that no U.S. airstrikes were carried out in Yemen between 2020 and 2021, whereas in the past there have been multiple airstrikes each year against al-Qaeda operatives in the Arabian Peninsula.
