The Iraqi army stops the entry of vegetable shipments from Syria because of drugs

The Iraqi army prevented the entry of trucks loaded with vegetables from the al-Qaim crossing in the rural area of al-Bukmal, east of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria, for the past two days, according to a reporter from the Syrian news network Nahr Media Network.

The reporter of the network said that the reason why the Iraqi army prevented the entry of vegetable trucks from Syria was the seizure of a shipment of drugs inside one of the trucks carrying vegetables, after it entered from Syria and reached the Rawa area - the Iraqi Rawa.

He added that because of this ban, the Iraqi Hezbollah militia, which manages the military crossing, prevented traders from bringing vegetable trucks into Iraq.

It is worth noting that the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, in coordination with Division 4 of Maher Assad and the Iraqi militias, transfers drug shipments to Iraq, Jordan and neighboring areas.

A note in the background of the news: One should not get the impression from this report that the Iraqis have begun a struggle to prevent the infiltration of drugs from Syria and Hezbollah into their territory.

All in all, there is a war of drug gangs over areas of control and collection of distribution fees. In this case, the Iraqi Hezbollah members began to feel that they were being bypassed in the massive drug distribution chain that operates on the Syria-Iraq border and they decided, temporarily, to flex their muscles in order to get a piece of the pie.

Everything is of course temporary until they reach a financial arrangement again.
