Iranian militias have opened a border crossing with Iraq in the eastern rural area of Deir a-Zour, after closing one of the crossings they control in the area following an internal conflict.
Media sources stated that the militias opened a military border gate around the city of al-Bukmal, after an agreement between the Iraqi Hezbollah and the Asaib Ahl al-Haq for joint management of this crossing.
In recent days, the militias have closed one of the border crossings in the city of al-Bukmal following a dispute between the Iraqi Hezbollah and Asaib Ahl al-Haq over the management of customs money.
To open this crossing, Iranian investigator Rashid Hurani said that Iran is seeking to convey the messages to its regional and international opponents that it is willing to expand the arena of confrontation with Iraq through its al-Khashd al-Shabi militia.
Hurani noted in an interview that Iranian militias are using these crossings for "securing the Iranian land bridge operating from Iraq to Lebanon."
These crossings are considered illegal and serve as an alternative to the al-Qa'im crossing, which is controlled by the Iraqi government. Iranian militias use it as a major means of bringing weapons into Syria and smuggling drugs.
It should be noted that the Iranian militias control the territory of most of the Iraq-Syria borders, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards militias have a headquarters and weapons depots in the area.
