The Raytheon missile and defense division in conjunction with Raphael successfully conducted a live medium-range interceptor firing test for the U.S. Marine Corps. The experiment intercepted targets that simulated threats of enemy cruise missiles.
Raytheon announced that the experiment examined the integration between the MIRC interceptor and the AN / TPS-20 radar, as well as parts of Raphael's IRON DOME iron dome system and its Tamir interceptor.
Pini Yugman, Rafael's vice president, expressed satisfaction with the success of the shooting experiment: "The Iron Dome system continues to prove its capabilities against advanced threats, and it is one of the best missile defense systems in the world."
The collaboration between Raytheon and Raphael has been going on for about a decade on the Iron Dome project, with success of more than 90 percent in 4,000 operational interceptions.
