So far the negotiations have faltered and there has been no breakthrough. The senior US official has confirmed that the Iranians demand that the US remove more sanctions than stipulated in the nuclear agreement, and that they impose fewer restrictions on the nuclear program than stipulated in the agreement - for example with regard to advanced centrifuges. "The choice is clear. If you want to return to the nuclear deal it is clear what Iran needs to do," the senior official said. "We do not know if the Iranians want to do that or not. It is possible to reach an understanding on a return to the agreement but it is a matter of a political decision of the Iranian leadership."
