The Egyptian authorities yesterday issued a license to the Russian nuclear energy company "Rosatom" for the construction of the first power unit at the al-Dabaa nuclear plant. The Russian nuclear energy company has also confirmed that it has received approval from the Egyptian authorities to begin construction of the first nuclear plant in the Nile. Construction may begin as early as next month, so the Russian state-owned company plans to cast the first concrete at the site.
 
In November 2015, Russia and Egypt signed an intergovernmental agreement to build a nuclear power plant. The cost of setting up the project is estimated at $ 21 billion. According to the original agreement, 85% of the financing is to come from a Russian loan to Egypt and the remaining 15% from the Egyptian side.
