A report by the Stockholm Institute for Peace Studies reveals that despite the economic situation, the countries of the world have spent more money on the military field. According to the report, this is about $2.1 trillion last year, an increase of 0.7% compared to 2020.
The military expenditures of the countries of the Middle East amounted to about $186 billion. Although this is a decrease of about 3% compared to 2020, it is an increase of about 6% compared to a figure from a decade ago.
The decline in spending last year is attributed to relatively low oil prices.
Therefore, with the rise in oil prices since the beginning of the current year, it is likely that the countries around us will devote more and more resources to military equipment.
The leading country in military spending in the region is Saudi Arabia with about $56 billion last year.
According to the report, Iran's military spending last year reached about $25 billion.
