21 years since the Ramallah Lynching
Im Tirtzu 13.10.2021
On the morning of October 12, 2000, two IDF reserve soldiers, Vadim Nurzhitz and Yossi Avrahami, were driving to their IDF base when then mistakenly turned into the Arab city of Ramallah.
The two were arrested by Palestinian Authority policemen and detained in the local police station. Word quickly spread that two IDF soldiers were being held at the station, and within minutes a mob of bloodthirsty Arabs stormed the police station and dragged out Vadim and Yossi.
The mob of hundreds savagely murdered Vadim and Yossi and dragged their mutilated bodies into the public square to cheers of the crowd. (Out of respect for Vadim and Yossi I am omitting the specific details of the lynching)
At 11:00, Yossi’s wife Chani called his cell phone to ask him if he arrived safely to his base. One of the murderers picked up the phone and laughingly told her, “I slaughtered your husband a few minutes ago.” That was how Chani found out her husband was murdered.
The sickening images of footage from the lynching are forever etched into Israeli consciousness.
May their memories be for a blessing.
