Prime Minister Bennett's visit today, following a visit by Defense Minister Gantz, indicates Bahrain's eagerness to set content into the peace agreement with Israel. The Bahraini are mainly looking for an ally who can be trusted in security and intelligence because of the biggest threat to them - Iran.
Along the way, Manama hopes that relations with Israel will contribute to economic growth. Indeed, after years of economic decline, declining revenues and the Corona crisis, the first signs of a recovery in the Bahraini economy are being seen.
According to reports in the kingdom, as of the end of 2021 the assets of the "Next Generations Fund" - a government investment fund designed to secure the economic future of the kingdom's youth - grew by $151 million to $624 million. This is an important achievement after more than $1 billion was withdrawn from the fund in June 2020 to cover the deficits following the Corona crisis.
The increase in oil prices is expected to increase the fund's income and who knows maybe it will invest in an Israeli asset ....
