Egypt, Jordan France, Germany: Annexation will have implications for relations with Israel
Egypt, Jordan France, Germany warned Israel in a joint statement against applying suverenity in parts of the West Bank, stating that this would have implications for relations between the countries. The statement, issued by the German Foreign Ministry, said the foreign ministers were discussing the resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
The annexation plan, which is unclear when, how and if at all, will be part of the "century deal" drafted by US President Donald Trump. Washington has not yet given a green light to Jerusalem to begin annexation, which the PA is strongly opposed to. Egypt and Jordan are allies of the United States and the only Arab states with peace agreements with Israel.
"We have agreed that any annexation of Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 is a violation of international law and would jeopardize the foundations of the peace process," German Foreign Ministers said after the joint video call. "We will not recognize any change in the 1967 borders that has not been agreed upon by both parties of the conflict. This could also have implications for the relationship with Israel."
