Investigation in Germany: Hezbollah purchased huge quantities of material that caused the explosion in Beirut Hezbollah had received large shipments of ammonium nitrate in 2013 and 2014, the substance that caused the huge explosion at a port in Beirut, the German newspaper Di Walt reported last night (Wednesday) from Western intelligence sources. The Shiite organization denied any connection to the disaster, and Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah said there was no connection between him and the reservoirs that exploded. According to the information obtained by the German newspaper, 270 tons of ammonium nitrate were transferred in July 2013 from Iran to Lebanon, at a price equivalent to around $213,000. In October of that year, another shipment arrived with the same amount of material, at a total cost of $165,000. A third shipment, which arrived in April 2014, was estimated at a price of around $71,000, and the amount of ammonia in it was estimated at 90 to 130 tons. The invoices reached the newspaper, which was unable to fully verify the information beyond that. However, the paper admits that it was unable to identify a direct link between those shipments and the material that exploded at the port about two weeks ago. So far it is not clear why these materials were stored in the port instead of being removed or destroyed by the authorities. In any case, the newspaper claims, even if Hezbollah did not receive this material, it housed the materials. Source: Walla News
