Kushner: Saudi Arabia has agreed to open airspace to all flights from Israel to the east
Senior Adviser to the President of the United States, Jared Kushner, announced Wednesday, that the Saudi Arabian government has agreed to open its airspace to all flights departing from Israel to the east. Kushner explained that following the Saudi decision, any aircraft arriving from Israel and requesting transit clearance in Saudi airspace would receive it.
Last week, the Saudi Arabian government agreed to allow flights between Israel and the United Arab Emirates to pass over its airspace, following an official request submitted by the United Arab Emirates government, and many US diplomatic efforts. The El Al 971 flight that took off for Abu Dhabi from Ben Gurion Airport last week was the first direct flight of an Israeli commercial airline, which received a permit to fly through Saudi airspace.
UAE officials have held numerous talks with the Saudis in the past two weeks to make sure they approve flights between the countries to pass through their airspace. The Saudi approval was an important condition for promoting the flight agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
