A Sad Day Author: Regavim Movement Today, Justice Minister Nissenkorn and Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit announced “adjustments” to the Kaminitz Law. Officially, the law hasn’t been repealed (such efforts failed yesterday in the Knesset), merely “adjusted”. Due to pressure from the Joint Arab List, administrative fines won’t be issued for illegal construction in the Arab sector if the building was populated before 2018. The law hasn’t been frozen; it remains in effect. But it’s certainly lost some ‘teeth’ due to this punch by the Israeli government, inflicted by Justice Minister Avi Nissenkorn. Unfortunately, the government has failed to lead. Instead, they’ve capitulated to pressure by MKs Ayman Odeh, Ahmad Tibi and the like, in a move that cushions illegal construction. We are concerned that by rewarding ‘old’ construction, a wave of new, illegal construction will inundate the country. The Kaminitz Law is the most significant achievement in the area of governability that the Likud has to show for the past decade in power. Today’s decision sets the State of Israel hurtling back toward chaos in the Negev and the Galilee. Source: Regavim Movement's Facebook page
