Anti-Semitism in Bulgaria The oldest synagogue still operating in Bulgaria was vandalized with antisemitic and anti-Zionist graffiti this morning. A great shock to the Jewish community of the Balkan nation. Slogans spray-painted "Free Palestine" and "Israel = Nazis" were hung on the gates of the Zion Synagogue in the city of Plovdiv alongside an anarchist symbol and the words "Antifa Bulgaria”. The "Zion" synagogue in Plovdiv, built in 1886-1887 and expanded in 1922, was built according to the belief that it was the site of an earlier synagogue from the beginning of the 18th century.
