Amazing Wildlife of the Holy Land: The Lesser Kestrel
The Lesser Kestrel is currently nesting in Israel, until around June when they will migrate back to Africa.
This bird often nests in tiled roofs, and as there are fewer and of these the Lesser Kestrel is, sadly, in danger of extinction worldwide.
It can be differentiated from the Common Kestrel by the color of its talons.
During mating season, the males bring food to the females, as can be seen in these photos- the male hovers, holding prey in its talons, before giving it to the female.
