The Syrian regime announced that the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo were out of service, following a double "Israeli bombing" that took place on Thursday afternoon.
The official news agency SANA quoted a military source as saying: "At approximately 1:50 p.m. in the afternoon, the Israeli enemy simultaneously carried out an air attack while firing missiles, towards the international airports of Aleppo and Damascus."
The source added that the bombing "led to damaging the runways of the two airports and putting them out of use."
Both international airports have previously been subject to bombings and airstrikes attributed to Israel over the past few years.
But the current incident comes at a sensitive time, while in the Gaza Strip there is a war between Israel and Hamas militants for the sixth day in a row.
Over the past few years, Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes in Syria aimed at Syrian army positions, Iranian targets and Hezbollah targets, including weapons and ammunition depots in various areas.
The "bombing of the two airports" came before a planned visit by the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdulahian, to the Syrian capital, Damascus, as reported by semi-official media from sources.
His plane, which was in air at the time of the attack had to turn around and head back to Tehran.
