WATCH: Channel 4’s undercover mosque exposé that authorities tried to bury
Channel 4’s Undercover Mosque first aired on January 15, 2007, exposing extremist preaching inside UK mosques. Hidden-camera footage showed imams calling to “take that homosexual man and throw him off the mountain” and describing women as “deficient.”
Instead of arresting the hate preachers, West Midlands Police accused Channel 4 of misleading editing and claimed the broadcast could incite racial hatred. That move backfired.
The UK media regulator Ofcom rejected the police complaint, and the force later lost a libel case—being forced to issue an unreserved public apology on May 15, 2008.
