The conservative establishment in Iran was struck by astonishment a few days ago after the most senior cleric in the Islamic Republic harshly criticized the economic situation and rising prices.

Grand Ayatollah Lotpallah Safi Gulfigani was quoted as saying in a meeting with the speaker of parliament that "the people do not deserve this situation."

"Reach an agreement with the US" means that Iran needs to have good relations with the countries of the world so that the Iranian people are not harmed.

The things he said contradict the statements of Khamenei and his people who call on the people to be part of the "economy of resistance." Thus, the conservative newspapers did not publish the comments of the cleric.

The importance of these statements cannot be underestimated as he is considered the most senior cleric in the country. His views are extremely conservative, such as a ban on music, but the criticism he voiced about the economic situation shows that there are serious disagreements at the top of Iran leaders and can indicate a significant break within current  conservative establishment, one that supports the agreement with the "great devil."
