WATCH: “Venezuela is the clearest example of how socialism and corruption can destroy a country – it was once among the world’s 20 richest nations” | Interview with Jorge Giraissati
In an interview with NTD, Venezuelan-born economist Jorge Giraissati explains how decades of socialist policies and corruption under Nicolás Maduro devastated Venezuela’s economy – and why he believes recovery is still possible.
Against the backdrop of Venezuela’s deepening crisis, an NTD News anchor spoke with Jorge Giraissati, a Venezuelan expatriate now living in the United States and president of the Economic Inclusion Group, a US-based consulting firm working toward rebuilding Venezuela’s economy and state institutions.
Giraissati said that the current situation is the inevitable result of years of disastrous policies. According to him, Nicolás Maduro turned what was once a prosperous country into a humanitarian catastrophe, a threat to US national security, and a destabilizing force in Latin America.
