Days after he vacated his seat, Deputy Prime Minister Naftali Bennett wanted to turn to the Knesset and ask for conditions for a former prime minister - despite his short tenure. Bennett planned to apply to the Knesset's Finance Committee and request a change in the criteria for accepting a prime minister's retirement condition from 18 to 12 months.
Caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid informed him: "We will not support the request," and the refusal created tensions between the chambers.
Bennett's move comes from fears that the next Knesset will not recognize his tenure as an alternative prime minister. The letter has already been drafted, but Lapid, who blocked the request and made it clear that he would not support it, claimed that it was a personal request that would also tarnish it.
