Iraq is Drying Up, Who is Responsible?
Doron Peskin, Middle East Expert 23.08.2021
Iraq is facing a severe ecological and economic crisis, due to the lowering of the waters of the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers to a dangerous level.
These two rivers are responsible for 90% of the Iraqi water sector, but in recent years they are being "stolen" by by Iraq's neighbors - Iran and Turkey.
These two countries are taking advantage of the instability and internal weakness in Iraq, in order to build dams and violate the agreements about the water quotas.
