The Saddest Day of the Jewish Year
Im Tirtzu 18.07.2021
This evening marks the start of Tisha B'av, the saddest day of the Jewish year.
Tisha B'av, literally meaning the 9th of Av (the 11th month in the Hebrew calendar), is the date on which the First and Second Jewish Temples in Jerusalem were destroyed.
Numerous other tragedies befell the Jewish people on Tisha B'av, including the suppression of the Bar Kochba Revolt, the implementation of the Nazi Final Solution, the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492, and more.
Jews around the world mark this day in fast and refrain from enjoyable activities.
