A Ukrainian soldier during training in Poland was seen carrying an Israeli-made Spike-LR anti-tank guided missile (ATGM).
This missile is manufactured under license by the Polish company MESKO, which signed a deal to manufacture this anti-tank missile between 2015 and 2022.
The letters "LR" stand for "long range".
The Spike is an Israeli "launch and forget" guided missile with an extremely powerful warhead. It was developed and designed by the Israeli company "Rafael Advanced Defense Systems".
The Spike LR uses infrared imaging guidance. The missile is similar to the Spike MR, but has an additional fiber optic data link. This allows the Spike LR to be fired not only in "launch and forget" mode, but also in "launch-watch-target-and-update" mode. The data link also extended the maximum range of the missile from 2.5 km in the Spike MR version to 4 km.
