The number of pediatric transplants recorded in official Chinese data has sharply increased in recent years — despite a steady decline in birth rates.
A Chinese doctor admitted that his hospital removed organs from premature infants, some alive only for a few hours. “We have performed over 20 kidney transplants from child donors — all for adult patients,” he said. “The donors were premature babies, some only hours old at the time.”
