Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has declared a nationwide state of emergency and placed the armed forces on wartime alert, citing an escalating threat from U.S. military deployments in the Caribbean.
The emergency decree, which initially lasts 90 days, grants the government sweeping powers over security, infrastructure, and mobilization, including the authority to centralize control of critical sectors such as oil and energy.
Maduro warned that Venezuela must prepare for “all scenarios,” accusing Washington of plotting military action against his country.
As part of the measures, Venezuela has reinforced coastal defenses and partially closed its airspace near strategic zones, while nationwide military drills are being organized. The Maduro government insists the moves are defensive, but the announcement has heightened regional tensions and drawn concern over possible escalation.
