Imam Wesley Lebron, speaking at a Friday sermon in Utica, New York, said that many Latin Americans are “on the cusp” of leaving Christianity and are waiting for Muslims to engage with them.
Lebron used the platform to raise funds for a Spanish-language dawah (Islamic outreach) program targeting immigrants and communities from Latin America.
According to Lebron, the initiative aims to replicate the perceived success of English-language outreach programs. He urged attendees to actively participate by reaching out and engaging with Latin American communities, claiming they are receptive and seeking alternatives to their current religious beliefs.
Lebron, who is also known as the “Puerto Rican Imam,” suggested that significant opportunities exist across regions such as the Caribbean, Central America, and South America, framing them as key targets for Islamic outreach efforts in the US and abroad.
