Iranian history professor at Damascus University, Sadegh Ramezani stated in a December 22, 2024 appearance on Ofogh TV (Iran) that Syrian historical sources have always referred to the Ottoman rule in Syria as an "occupation," which is why Syrians have consistently resisted such regimes.
He added that the "New Ottoman Empire" has sparked a negative reaction from Syrians, and that people were angered by the Turkish flag being raised over the Citadel of Aleppo. Ramezani predicted the emergence of movements and youth who will wage resistance against the new situation in Syria.
