President-elect Donald Trump has announced plans to implement significant new tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China as part of his strategy to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking immediately upon taking office.
In a series of posts on his Truth Social platform on Monday evening, Trump stated, "On January 20th, as one of my first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to impose a 25% tariff on ALL products coming into the United States from Mexico and Canada."
He emphasized that these tariffs would remain in effect "until drugs, particularly fentanyl, and all illegal immigration cease their invasion of our country."
Additionally, Trump indicated that he would impose an extra 10% tariff on Chinese goods, "above any additional tariffs," citing concerns over drug imports, including fentanyl.
