Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea urges Vice President JD Vance to separate Lebanon’s future from Iranian influence.
Samir Geagea, head of Lebanon’s Christian Lebanese Forces party, issued an open letter to US Vice President JD Vance, speaking in the name of Lebanon’s Christians and calling on Washington to cut any connection between Iran and the Lebanese arena.
Geagea urged the US to strengthen Lebanon’s state institutions and avoid any diplomatic track in which Iran is allowed to play a role in managing Lebanon’s affairs. His message is clear: as long as Tehran has influence over Lebanon through Hezbollah, Lebanon cannot act as a sovereign state and cannot enter a serious political process with Israel.
This warning should echo loudly in Washington. If the US wants even a small chance of a real peace track between Israel and Lebanon, it cannot allow Iran to hold veto power over the ceasefire or the future of southern Lebanon.
