Israel has fired back at Erdoğan after the Turkish president issued another inflammatory threat against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that Netanyahu would receive “the lesson he deserves from the Muslims of the world.”
The Israeli Foreign Ministry responded by turning the spotlight back on Erdoğan’s own record, accusing his government of “crushing Turkish democracy in broad daylight.”
The ministry pointed to recent scenes from Turkey, where riot police forced their way into sites linked to the main opposition CHP party after a court ruling against the party’s leadership. The footage showed police moving against opposition figures and supporters, adding to growing accusations that Erdoğan is using state power, the courts and the police to weaken his political rivals.
Israel’s message was clear: Erdoğan has no moral authority to lecture Israel while his own government is accused of silencing critics, targeting opposition parties and using police force against democratic institutions.
