The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, citing its sources, reports a significant reshuffle in Hamas’s senior leadership following the eliminations of top figures in recent years.
According to the report, Khalil al-Hayya—deputy to Yahya Sinwar—has been appointed as the new head of Hamas’s political bureau, replacing Ismail Haniyeh, who was eliminated nearly two years ago.
At the same time, Khaled Mashaal has once again been selected to lead Hamas’s external operations branch (“Hamas Abroad”), a role he has held in the past and remains influential in shaping the organization’s international strategy.
In addition, Zaher Jabarin has been appointed head of Hamas operations in Judea and Samaria, replacing Saleh al-Arouri, who was eliminated in Lebanon in January 2024.
