The arrest of three Bulgarian nationals in the UK reveals a pattern of espionage activities being conducted by the Russians.
The three suspected Russian spies were held in February and have been remanded in custody since. They are charged with possessing identity documents with "improper intention", and have had these knowing they were fake.
The arrest of the trio is the latest in what appears to be a growing trend of heightened spy activities within Western countries.
Traditionally, three of Russia’s main security services post their operatives abroad under diplomatic cover. Russian intelligence has also used operatives posing as Russian businesspeople, tourists, or journalists.
However, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has made it difficult for its intel agencies to deploy spies on foreign land.
