Video confirms Al-Aqtan Prison was successfully breached, and thousands of ISIS detainees are now fleeing.
This was not an accident and not a jailbreak.
The prison was stormed by forces aligned with Syria's interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa (formerly Abu Mohammad al-Julani of HTS), who has received varying degrees of U.S. engagement and accommodation since taking power.
This action resulted in the release of roughly 5,000 ISIS-affiliated detainees (primarily from SDF-controlled facilities in the northeast, such as those in Raqqa or Tabqah areas).
