A mystery surrounding the disappearance of a yacht in the Red Sea with three Russian citizens and two Egyptians on board. There is no information about the identity of the five.
The last contact with the yacht was made last Wednesday when it left a Saudi port after refueling. The owner of the yacht, a Russian citizen living in the Emirates, claims that the yacht sent a distress signal before its disappearance. However, the US 5th Fleet operating in the area stated that it was not aware of any distress signal being sent.
The yacht called "30 Minutes" was not equipped with tracking devices, so its location is unknown. She disappeared according to estimates about 70 km from the coast of Yemen in the area controlled by the pro-Iranian Houthis. The Houthis have so far not addressed the issue.
In the past, there was activity in the area by pirates who came mainly from Somalia, but it has decreased significantly thanks to increased international efforts in the area.
