Despite President Biden's visit to Jeddah last July, it doesn't seem to have changed much in terms of Saudi Arabia's cold attitude towards the current US administration. The evidence for this is the decision made today by OPEC+ - the oil cartel producers led by Saudi Arabia and independent oil producers led by Russia - to reduce oil production by 2 million barrels per day.
The Saudis, along with the Emirates, did not take into account the Americans in this decision . This step will affect the pocketbook of all of us but for Biden there is double bad news here:
First, it is expected that the prices of black gold will rise again (today they have already risen by about 1%) and hence the prices of fuel in the American market will also rise, not really encouraging news for Biden near the midterm elections next month.
No less worrying for the White House is the level of coordination between Saudi Arabia and Russia.
