Lebanese Shi’ite scholar Maytham Issa harshly attacked Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem in a video message, accusing him of serving Iran rather than Lebanon and warning that his actions are leading the country toward destruction.
In the video, Issa says he hopes Qassem will be publicly humiliated and left without shelter, comparing such humiliation to the suffering endured by many Lebanese citizens who have been displaced and forced to sleep in the streets due to the country’s ongoing crises.
Issa also rejects the narrative promoted by Hezbollah that Lebanese Shi’ites seek revenge for the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to Issa, many Lebanese Shi’ites do not support such calls and do not see Hezbollah’s agenda as representing their interests.
He further argues that Hezbollah is not a genuine Lebanese resistance movement, but rather an Iranian force operating inside Lebanon. Issa claims that the group’s commanders and supporters are effectively mercenaries serving Tehran’s regional ambitions.
