Senior political officials note that one of the main issues that will be discussed at the Peace Council meeting tomorrow in Washington is the disarmament of Hamas.
On February 16, Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fox presented an up-to-date picture of the campaign in the Gaza Strip. According to him, Israel currently holds more than half of the territory of the Strip under full operational control, and is acting in full coordination with the American administration as it prepares for a critical phase.
"We are preparing for a period of about 60 days, during which Hamas will be given an opportunity to disarm. This is an American request that we respect. If this is done by agreement – better, and if not – the IDF will return to complete the mission," he said at the 23rd Jerusalem conference of the Basha Group.
