The Independent Syrian News Agency "North" reports that The United States navy seized 385 kg of heroin in the Arabian Sea in a major operation by the international naval operation in the region.
Two days ago, two vessels of the US navy confiscated an amount of heroin, worth of some $4 million, in the Arabian Sea, US officials said on Thursday.
“The two USS Tempest and USS Typhoon, coastal patrol ships, seized the drugs hidden aboard a stateless fishing vessel plying Mideast waters,” the international task force said in a statement.
Cmdr. Timothy Hawkins, a spokesperson for the U.S. Navy’s Mideast-based 5th Fleet said the fishing vessel likely came from Iran.
“All nine crew members identified themselves as Iranian nationals,” he noted.
Earlier, the international joint operation released a statement saying “while the international joint operation scale up regional patrols, it seized illegal drugs worth more than $193 million during two operation at sea this year- More than the amount of drugs seized in the last four last years combined”.
