NATO commander: Ukraine uses more ammunition than NATO can produce; supply of jets would not be "intervention" in Ukraine.
Against the background of the continuing fighting between Russia and Ukraine, and entering its second year, when the West continues its military support for Kiev, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned that the Ukrainian forces consume a much larger amount of ammunition than that produced by the member states of the alliance.
He said during a press conference on the eve of a meeting of defense ministers in NATO countries, today, Monday, that "the current rate of ammunition use in Ukraine is much greater than the current rate of our production."
"It puts our defense industries under pressure," he added.
What about planes?
In addition, he stated that he expects to discuss the issue of supplying aircraft to the Ukrainian forces at the next meeting of the defense ministers of the NATO countries, which will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, and last for two days. He explained that this issue needs urgent practical action.
He also stressed that the supply of fighter jets from NATO countries to Kiev would not make NATO a party to the conflict.
As for the expected new Russian attack on the territory of Ukraine, he estimates that it has already begun. He concluded: "We don't see Russian President Vladimir Putin as ready for peace, but he still clings to the desire to take over Ukraine."
