Israel and Greece are deepening their security alliance as Israeli-made Spike missiles are deployed in strategic areas facing Turkey, alarming Ankara.
The security partnership between Israel and Greece continues to strengthen, and Turkish President Erdogan is watching the developments with growing concern. After Israel supplied Greece with advanced air and naval defense systems, Athens has now deployed offensive missile capabilities on islands along Turkey’s maritime border—dealing a significant blow to Ankara’s ambitions in the eastern Mediterranean.
According to international reports, Greece has stationed Israeli-made Spike NLOS missiles on the eastern Aegean islands and along the Evros River, the sensitive land border between Greece and Turkey. These long-range, precision-guided missiles are capable of striking both land and maritime targets from distances of tens of kilometers and are considered among the most advanced deterrent and offensive systems of their kind.
The deployment comes amid ongoing tensions between Athens and Ankara, including territorial disputes, competition over exclusive economic zones, and repeated military friction surrounding islands close to Turkey’s coastline. For Turkey, the presence of advanced Israeli weapon systems in such close proximity represents a notable shift in the regional balance of power.
