A new center-right party might become the "king-maker" in the upcoming elections.
A new Israel Hayom/Kantar poll points to a surprising political opening ahead of Israel’s next election: a possible center-right party made up of figures such as ex-Likud MKs Gilad Erdan, Yuli Edelstein, Moshe Kahlon and others could become the balance of power in the next Knesset.
According to Amit Segal’s analysis, the idea is not a classic centrist party, but rather a right-wing party that would refuse to sit with the ultra-Orthodox parties or the Arab parties. It would not support Netanyahu automatically, but it would also not disqualify him in advance.
The poll found that around 20% of the public say they are either sure or think they would vote for such a party. Support is split almost evenly between those who backed the coalition and those who backed the opposition in the previous election, though many of the potential votes appear to come from voters currently parked in the anti-Netanyahu bloc.
